SKW products for primary metallurgy

The first step in the steelmaking process is refered to as primary metallurgy and entails the reduction of iron ore to liquid iron or hot metal. From the simple process of adding a reagent to the top of hot metal (in order to be stirred under) to the more sophisticated process of deep injection (through the immersion of a refractory rotary lance) in torpedo cars or hot metal ladles, SKW products are used in all forms of desulfurization and dephosphorization.

Our products are customized according to the requirements of each process with agents made of calcium oxide, calcium carbide, metallic magnesium and many others. The sale of these highly specialized products comprises precise technical diagnosis and follow-up of the applications by our highly qualified technicians in order to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

Injectable Ironmaking Desulfurizing Products


High Mg content reagents, manufactured from high purity magnesium ingot, are very powerful desulfurizers which can be co-injected with pulverized flow treated lime or calcium carbide based products into iron to achieve ultra-low sulphur aims.

Calcium Carbide-based reagents

Pulverized flow treated calcium carbide is used as a primary desulfurizer or in a mixture with lime and/or magnesium as a blended mono-injection reagent. Calcium carbide can also be used in co-injection or in multi-injection processes with lime and magnesium to reduce reagent consumption and injection time. It is a must in torpedo car desulfurization.

Fluidized Lime-based reagents

Pulverized flow-treated lime is an integral component in our proprietary blends with Calcium carbide and/or Magnesium powders sized and blended to avoid segregation. This material performs well as a mono-injection reagent but can also be co-injected.

Blended reagents

Injectable flow treated mixtures based on iron oxide, lime and fluorspar can be used as mono-injection reagents in the dephosphorization process with high performance. Product injection is performed using oxygen as the transport gas.

Rotary Lance Injection

Patented technology which provides better dispersion of injection reagents leading to improved reagent efficiency, lower reagent consumption, reduced splash and reduced temperature loss applicable in ladle and torpedo desulfurizing stations

Dual Lance Injection

Lance injection systems such as the patented Dual Lance system are offered. This technology reduces injection times and by that decreasing temperature losses and improving lance life

Flow Control Valves

Patented valve systems such as the Variable Orifice Valve (VOV) and Injection Nozzle Valve for better control of reagent flow from injector vessels, paired with in-house PLC flowrate control software
